Trends: How Texture & Tone Can Transform a Kitchen

It’s no secret that all of us at Smile Kitchens are passionate about great design. This means we are always researching the latest trends and finding new ways to stay one step ahead of the ever-changing world of kitchen design.

We’ve rounded up the leading trends in texture and tone and put together a forecast for the new trends so that you don’t have to!

Elements of Nature

We saw a huge rise in natural, stripped back materials at the beginning of 2021 and they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Expect to see more natural materials such as stripped back wood, foliage and earthy colours such as browns, beiges and greens this autumn and winter.

A great way to implement this into your kitchen is by choosing a solid wood worktop. There is such a large variety of colours, wood types and woodgrains so there is something for everyone. Wooden worktops are a timeless classic in any style of kitchen, so they’re a great investment for your home! If you would prefer to opt out of a solid wood worktop we also offer some great laminate alternatives which provides the same beautiful aesthetics for a lower price!

If you like the look of natural wood grains and you want to step it up a notch, our Fin range is the one for you. The warm tones of the wood effect doors create a stylish and tranquil atmosphere to your kitchen. The Fin range works beautifully when mixed with other ranges or can be simply styled on its own.

Introducing natural elements into your kitchen through décor is a simple and effective way to add a stylish flair to your home. Try adding some wooden open shelving and dressing with some plants, cookbooks and other accessories.

Contrasting Colours

We have witnessed a huge rise in popularity for bright, bold colours and an even larger rise in two tone kitchens. This is the perfect opportunity to have fun and mix and match your favourite colours to really make your space yours.

Having a two tone kitchen is the perfect way to inject some colour into your home. If you love bold colours but you don’t want to dedicate your whole kitchen to the rainbow, then why not add a more neutral and contrasting colour to the mix such as our ‘Tusk’ or ‘Clay’ colours?

Our ranges offer up to 11 colour options ranging from beautiful dusky pinks to coastal pastel blues to decedent deep greens and everything in between. There is a colour for everyone!

Fun fact: Our Vard and Jasper ranges can be repainted to whatever colour you desire!

Metal Finishes

Similar to our earlier topic of natural elements, another popular and upcoming trend is the use of metal finishes. We saw a huge wave of copper and rose gold entering the interior design world a few years back…now that trend is back and better than ever!

Incorporating a variety of different metals into your kitchen is a brilliant way of adding an extra dimension to your home and really giving your home that ‘’magazine’’ look!

There are a few ways that you can incorporate metals into your kitchen, such as adding a metal inspired worktop. These are quickly on the rise and it isn’t hard to understand why! We offer several metallic finishes in our compact laminate range. These worktops are super hardwearing, practical, affordable and on trend!

One of my favourite worktops is our ‘Rouille’ compact laminate. I absolutely love the rich, rusty effect. It is definitely a showstopper!

Fearn, Kitchen Designer

Another great way of adding a touch of metal into your home is through the finer details such as your sinks and taps. Instead of opting for the classic stainless steel, consider something a little different such as gold, copper or gunmetal sinks and taps to add that extra touch of luxury.

If you want to add a subtle touch of metal to your kitchen without spending too much, you could simply switch out your handles. This instantly transforms your whole kitchen and it doesn’t require any DIY skills! With 121 handles to choose from, in a variety of different finishes ranging from pewter, gold, copper, brass and more, there is a handle for everyone.

Whilst keeping up with the ever-changing trends is super exciting and fun, our designers at Smile Kitchens understand that a kitchen isn’t an everyday purchase, so it’s important that we get it absolutely perfect. We will work with you to make sure your kitchen is bespoke and caters for every one of your requirements. With our 10 year guarantee we want to make sure that you love your kitchen just as much in a decades time as you did the day it got fitted.
