Danny and Alex were looking for a statement kitchen. A place for their friends and family to congregate, a place for them to entertain. They wanted a kitchen that had a dramatic impact when you walked through the door.
Danny and Alex love to entertain and they wanted a kitchen that was made for it. They wanted a space for everyone to congregate in – a space to entertain and for the family to congregate in. They wanted a kitchen that could be the centrepiece of their home.
They wanted their kitchen to stand out and be bold. They wanted it to be the kitchen that people could be envious of and they wanted it to add value to their home. Danny and Alex wanted a built-in seating area, plenty of storage, a bar area and they wanted it to feel modern but with traditional roots.
A wonderful example of a dark colour not overpowering the space, Danny and Alex’s kitchen features the decadence of our Onyx finish. Despite it’s deep, dark tone, the Onyx doors don’t swallow up the room around them. The addition of a wealth of natural light helps to keep this space light but combining this with the dark doors and cabinets creates a warmth and cosiness.
The richness of the Onyx pairs perfectly with the classic sophistication of the Hjerte shaker-style doors. Adding further depth and intensity to an already shapely and detailed door. With a nod to traditional design but with a contemporary quality this kitchen is a perfect example of Dark Academia. A subtler take on the maximalist trends that have become so popular over the last few years. Paired excellently with brass finishes and a light worktop to present a stark contrast to the dark tones of Onyx, embodying the essence of Dark Academia – dark backdrops highlighted with pops of colour and metallic finishes.
Danny and Alex, whilst creating this kitchen for themselves, also had eyes on the future and the sale of their property. In the Spring of 2022, they decided to put their house on the market.
Here’s what Alex told us about that process:
“Every single offer commented on how much they loved the kitchen-diner and that it was the main selling feature. They stated how amazing the finish was, that the colour scheme was wonderful, that it was clean, fresh, bright, ‘aspirational’ and a total entertainment space yet still homely and cosy.”
